Winchester is a household name for firearms and ammunition but during the 1920s, this iconic brand expanded into the sporting goods market. While American manufacturing experience rapid growth due to mechanization and the implementation of the assembly line, Winchester began producing full lines of sporting goods products for baseball, football, basketball, boxing, tennis, ice skating, and other various sports. American interest in sports was growing and Winchester continued to ramp up their product lines through the 1920’s until the Great Depression hit in 1929. The company had to adjust their business model to survive which ultimately closed the door on most of their sporting good products at the beginning of the 1930s.
